Thanks to their location right in the mountainous area of the <strong>Peneda\u2011Ger\u00eas National Park (PNPG)<\/strong>, snowfall events are becoming ever more frequent, creating scenery that draws residents, regional visitors and nature lovers. The images shared on social media and by local and national news outlets reinforce this growing interest, especially among families seeking winter experiences, photographers and content creators, and lovers of hiking in mountain settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Snow has been present in several higher-altitude parishes, especially:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gavieira<\/strong>, where recent episodes left landscapes entirely painted white, creating an \u201cenchanting mantle\u201d that spread across the fields and rooftops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>S\u00e3o Bento do Cando<\/strong>, with significant accumulations that caught the attention of thousands of internet users.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Branda da Bou\u00e7a dos Homens<\/strong>, which also recorded intense precipitation and accumulations, being one of the municipality\u2019s high points for snow watching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure the visual impact of the snowfall. The \u201cEnchanted Forest\u201d, one of the iconic natural spots, turned into a true winter postcard that drew visitors from all over the region. Social media has played an essential role in spreading word of the phenomenon, multiplying photographs and videos that further drive spontaneous tourism. <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond Arcos de Valdevez, other spots in the Alto Minho \u2014 such as Melga\u00e7o and Castro Laboreiro \u2014 also see frequent snow episodes, helping to consolidate the region as a winter destination. The combination of mountains, preserved nature and occasional snow creates a singular tourism product, valued by national and international visitors alike. The Nevosa peak is an important example of this appeal, being the second-highest point of mainland Portugal, set within the Serra do Ger\u00eas - PNPG, in the municipality of Montalegre.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As visits to mountain areas increase, it is always worth reinforcing the appeals for prudence, moderate driving and, when necessary, the use of snow chains; all-wheel-drive vehicles; respect for road closures or restrictions; and avoiding unnecessary trips during episodes of accumulation and ice. The Volunteer Firefighters of Arcos de Valdevez have kept up regular operations to clear roads and spread salt, ensuring traffic on the most affected roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The snow phenomenon can be harnessed strategically by the municipality and the Alto Minho region, through the creation of <strong>winter routes and viewpoints<\/strong>; the promotion of organised activities: snow hikes, nature photography, themed visits; the enhancement of the <strong>brandas<\/strong> (traditional mountain hamlets) as spaces of added interest when snow-covered; and the strengthening of local accommodation and dining during the cold months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Snow in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez and in the Alto Minho has ceased to be a rare phenomenon and has become part of the region\u2019s seasonal identity.
