Nature Tourism - Arcos de Valdevez

Arcos de Valdevez is a center of excellence for nature-based tourist activities, offering countless alternative options.

The river that runs through the village and gives it its name is not contaminated by polluting discharges from industrial activities or urban agglomerations. A diversity of aquatic species and birds live and coexist in its waters. Examples of this are the otters that are sporadically sighted, or the resident herons. A diverse fauna of fish and birds populate the Vez River.

People have a very close relationship with the river. Bridges and footbridges cross the river, and Valeta's river beach, one of the cleanest and safest in the country, is an example of this connection that unites the two banks.

Then we have our mountains. Located within the national park, Peneda encompasses a diversity of landscapes that are unique in the world.

The green of the forest, the rocky outcrops, and the constant waterways of rivers, streams, and waterfalls characterize the region. Several species live there, some of which are endangered, such as the Iberian wolf, which must be preserved, or the Corsican deer, in addition to the garranos (wild horses) or the ever-present cachena cows, which often surprise us along the roads.

The relationship with this reality can also be closer, through the multiple trails that cross the entire municipality and provide us with sublime landscapes and moments of ecstasy.

Carvalha House is committed to these adventures, through contacts and by promoting a comforting stay after a long walk, or a simple stroll to the village. It is located about 100 meters from one of the main eco-trails available: the Sistelo walkways, which go to Ponte de Lima, along the right bank of the rivers; and very close to the mouth of the Lima tributary: the Vez River.
